Drug Offence – Arrest: C25-27002

On February 6, 2025, at approximately 11:45 a.m., while investigating an unrelated matter, Central District General Patrol officers came into contact with a suspicious male, who was in a common area of an apartment complex in the 300 block of Blake Street.

Officers observed the male reaching into his pockets and directed him to stop. The male ignored officer’s directions and was handcuffed and searched for officer safety.

A search of the male revealed the following:

  • Approximately 1.08 ounces of Methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $400)
  • Approximately 77.8 grams of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value = $4,100)
  • Approximately $860 in Canadian currency
  • White handled scraping knife

Upon arrest, the suspect concealed his true identity by providing officers with a forged identification document. Further investigation revealed his true identity.

Rex James SMITH, 40, of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Forged Document with Intent
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Warrant – Apprehension and Suspension of Parole/Statutory Release
  • Warrant – Unlawfully at Large

He was detained in custody.
