On February 2, 2025, at approximately 9:02 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers were travelling south on Isabel Street near the intersection of Bannatyne Avenue, and observed a 50-year-old male victim crossing the intersection in his wheelchair.
A 59-year-old suspect driving an SUV southbound in front of the officers struck the victim, causing him to be dislodged from his wheelchair and causing significant injuries. The suspect made no attempt to stop and fled the scene. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition, and was later upgraded to stable.
Officers stopped the suspect a short distance away and took him into custody without incident, while other officers provided aid to the victim. During the arrest, officers determined that the suspects ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired.
A 59-year-old male is facing following charges:
- Operation of a Conveyance CBH While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
- Within 2 hrs of Ceasing to Operate a Conveyance is Impaired with BAC Equal or Over 80mgs
He was released on an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
