The Winnipeg Police Service previously issued a media release regarding an assault with a weapon that occurred on September 24, 2024, at Sutherland/Maple.
Upon arrival, members observed a male with serious upper body injuries who was already being attended to by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
The male victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation.
The initial investigation revealed that a group of males were walking together when an argument ensued. The argument escalated to the point where two suspect males chased the 50-year-old male victim, assaulting him multiple times in the upper body before fleeing the scene.
Update:
After continued investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, a lone male suspect was identified.
On January 30, 2025, the suspect was arrested at a residence in the 500 block of Matheson Avenue.
The victim and the suspect were not previously known to one another.
Brandon Shawn Kelly MURDOCK, (19) of Winnipeg was charged with Aggravated Assault and was detained in custody.
