On January 23, 2025 at approximately 12:21 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a business in the 1800 block of Wellington Avenue for the report of a hold-up alarm. 

General Patrol officers from multiple districts, supported by Air1, attended the scene and spoke with a 26-year-old male victim, an employee of the business. The initial investigation revealed that a 23-year-old male suspect had filled a reusable grocery bag with merchandise and fled on foot. No threats or assaults were reported during the incident. A description of the suspect was broadcast citywide.

At approximately 12:47 a.m., a Winnipeg Transit operator reported seeing a male matching the suspect's description on a transit bus heading west on Portage Avenue near Main Street and alerted police. Officers responded to the area and located the suspect at the intersection of Vaughan Street and Ellice Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident, and the stolen property was recovered.

Joshua FIETING (23 yrs) of Winnipeg has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

He was detained in custody.
