On December 27, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of an assault with a weapon in the 300 block of Keenleyside Street.

Officers from the North District found a male in his 20s, outside a residence with serious upper body injuries. They provided emergency medical care, including the life-saving application of two tourniquets. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition, and eventually upgraded to stable after significant medical treatment.

With the assistance of the K9 Unit and information provided by witnesses, a track led police to three males, matching the suspects’ descriptions on Watt Street.

After a brief foot pursuit, police took the males into custody; one on Union Street and one on Harbison Avenue West. The weapons were recovered, and one individual remains outstanding.

Investigators determined that while the victim was leaving a residence he was socializing at, some unknown males from the upstairs suite chased him outside where he was assaulted with bear spray and a machete. The suspects fled, and observers called police.

A 14-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon

A 16-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence x 5

They were both detained in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate and asks anyone with information regarding this incident to contact investigators at 204-986-6219, 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
