In 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s North District Community Support Unit (CSU) commenced an investigation regarding an individual believed to be trafficking firearms and illicit drugs within the North Point Douglas neighbourhood.
On December 19, 2024 at approximately 8:00 p.m., with the assistance of General Patrol, CSU officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle linked through investigation, near Hallet Street and Euclid Avenue. The driver and three occupants were arrested without incident regarding the drugs and firearms investigation. An adult male passenger was found to have approximately $825 on his person and a search of the vehicle netted the following:
- A loaded Glock 9mm handgun
- A magazine with 9mm ammunition x 8
- 9mm ammunition x 15
- Approximately $8,000 in CDN funds
- Approximately 45 Percocet pills (Estimated Street Value: $910)
- Approximately 10 Grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $1,000)
- Cellular phones
Albert Kelly THOMAS, 41, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Warrant (Fail to Comply with Probation Order)
THOMAS was detained in police custody awaiting disposition.
A 30-year-old male, a 48-year-old female, and a 51-year-old female, were released on their own recognizance with no charges.
