On December 10, 2024 at approximately 2:37 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service attended to the 800 block of Allegheny Drive for the report of a taxi driver being robbed of their vehicle.

The initial investigation revealed that a 53-year-old taxi driver was assisting a fare with carrying groceries into their residence when an intoxicated youth female entered the driver’s seat of his taxi. The taxi driver returned to the vehicle and confronted the youth, at which point she engaged the vehicle in reverse and began to drive away. This caused the taxi driver to become caught in the open door of the taxi and dragged to the ground. He was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.

Members of the West District General Patrol were in the area at the time of the incident, and located the taxi in the first 100 block of Killarney Avenue, still occupied by the youth. She was taken into custody without incident.

A 16-year-old female of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:

  • Robbery
  • Operate a Conveyance While Impaired by Alcohol or Drug or Both
  • Fail or Refuse to Comply with Breath Demand
  • Drive Without a Licence or with Invalid Licence (HTA)

She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
