The Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit (CEU) is dedicated to protecting individuals at risk of sexual exploitation in the community. Through proactive law enforcement and partnered community outreach efforts, initiatives include identifying risks, providing support, and stopping exploitive offences.
On November 25, 2024, the Counter Exploitation Unit, in collaboration with the Missing Persons Units of the Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP, initiated 'Project Reset’.
The primary goal of Project Reset was to safeguard high-risk youth and adults and reduce stigma around accessing community resources, while also ensuring accountability for those who exploit vulnerable members of the community.
The results of this project are:
- 61 outreach engagements were conducted with females aged 13 to 49 who were identified as being at high risk of exploitation. These engagements assessed their safety and well-being, while also offering each individual access to resources and support.
- 12 individuals, including both youth and adults previously identified as being involved in exploitation, were arrested on outstanding warrants.
- 10 males between the ages of 26-59 were arrested for Obtaining Sexual Services for consideration and 9 vehicles were seized as a result of these offences.
Our commitment to preventing exploitation within the city is ongoing, but everyone has a role to play in promoting safety for all.
