Officer-Involved Shooting – IIU Investigation: C24-275792

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, Winnipeg Police Service members were present in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue, conducting a project as part of the Service’s retail theft initiative. 

At approximately 5:09 p.m., officers voiced over their portable radios that an officer had been stabbed in the throat and a male suspect had been shot.

Officers immediately commenced life saving measures on the male. 

The officer was transported to hospital and treated for his injuries.

The male was transported to hospital and succumbed to his injuries.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
