** UPDATE ** Assault Weapon – Investigation: C24-249151

On October 27, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service provided a Media Release regarding an assault that occurred on October 25th, 2024 at approximately 5:05 a.m., where a 56-year-old male victim was walking eastbound Ellice Avenue near Beverley Street when he was assaulted from behind by a suspect who is believed to be armed with a machete. He was treated for life altering injuries sustained from an assault with a weapon.The assault was unprovoked, and the victim and suspect are not known to each other.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation and is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect involved. Below are two photos of the suspect, captured on video surveillance during the incident.

The suspect is described as:

  • Approximately 5'10" in height
  • Thin build
  • Long dark hair
  • Age unknown
  • Last seen wearing black and white Nike Air Jordan shoes, dark pants, and a dark hoodie featuring the large number "02" printed on the back
