On November 4, 2024 at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers from the Winnipeg Police Service’s Central District observed a motor vehicle collision take place near Notre Dame Avenue and Balmoral Street. The vehicle collided with a street sign.
Officers onscene attended to the vehicle and determined the occupants (the driver and the passenger) were not injured. Police entered into an impairment-related investigation and took the driver into custody. A loaded handgun and ammunition were observed inside the vehicle and the female passenger was also taken into custody.
A 20-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
- Within 2 hrs of Ceasing to Operate a Conveyance is Impaired with BAC Equal or Over 80mgs
A 23-year-old female of Winnipeg is facing similar firearms charges.
They were both released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
