On November 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to a report of a family trouble incident in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers observed an agitated adult male on the front porch armed with a large edged weapon. A number of family members including several young children were evacuated safely without injury. Shortly thereafter, the male barricaded himself within the residence.

Numerous police resources including the Tactical Support Team (TST), the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Unit (Drone Unit) and General Patrol officers remained on scene for several hours.

A short time later, TST members attempted to de-escalate the situation to no avail, then used a less-lethal munition (OC canisters) in an effort to temporarily incapacitate the male. As a result, officers required the use of a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) to safely take him into custody.

A 30-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply with Order or Obligation
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply with Probation Order – Public Interest

He was detained in custody.
