On October 30, 2024 at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area James Avenue and Main Street for the report of a male armed with a knife.

Central District General Patrol officers attended and quickly arrested the suspect without incident and seized a knife from his person, believed to have been used in the assault. The victim, a 23-year-old male, was uninjured as a result of the incident.

Through their investigation, officers learned that the victim was operating his personal vehicle eastbound on James Avenue towards Main Street when the suspect operating a bicycle took exception to sharing the roadway, dismounted his bicycle and threw it at the direction of the vehicle. The victim stopped and exited his vehicle in order to remove the bicycle which has become lodged beneath.

The suspect proceeded to yell obscenities at the victim, approached him and threatened him while armed with a knife. The victim left the area and summoned police.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect purposely misidentified himself; however, he was positively identified while processed by members of the Identification Section.

Chance Sean KENNEDY, 45, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Identity Fraud – Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
