As Halloween approaches, costumes, candy, and festive fun await! Just like the classic treats that fill trick-or-treat bags, it’s time for our annual reminder of how to keep this spooky season safe and enjoyable for everyone. Here are some important safety tips to ensure a memorable Halloween for you and your loved ones.

Homeowners

• Illuminate Your Path: Ensure walkways and entryways are well-lit to prevent falls and guide trick-or-treaters safely. Turn on your porch light to welcome children.
• Secure Your Property: Clear obstacles and decorations that could cause trips or falls. Keep pets secured to avoid unexpected incidents.
• Report Suspicious Activity: Notify the police immediately of any suspicious or unlawful activity.

Trick-or-Treaters

• Be Visible: Wear bright or reflective costumes and carry a flashlight to enhance visibility.
• Stay Together: Go out in groups and stay on well-lit streets. Younger children should be accompanied by a trusted adult.
• Inspect Treats: Have an adult check all treats before eating. Discard anything that looks suspicious or is not in its original packaging.
• Plan Your Route: Discuss your route and set a return time with an adult. Stick to well-known areas, avoid shortcuts through alleys and only cross streets at intersections.

Motorists

• Slow Down: Reduce speed in residential areas, especially during peak trick-or-treating hours, as children can be unpredictable.
• Watch for Pedestrians: Be vigilant for children crossing streets and always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
• Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on the road; do not use your phone or engage in other distractions while driving. Expect children to dart out from between parked cars.

Help make this a safe & Happy Halloween for all.
