On October 24, 2024, East District General Patrol officers arrested an individual in relation to a stolen property investigation and a number of outstanding warrants.
At approximately 7:00 p.m., an autobody shop in the 400 block of St. Mary’s Road was broken into. A customer's SUV parked inside the building was stolen and driven through the overhead door, causing approximately $10,000 in damage to the property.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., the accused drove the stolen vehicle to a home renovation store on Abinojii Mikanah and stole approximately $3,000 worth of tools and left in the stolen vehicle.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., police discovered the stolen vehicle abandoned in the Niakawa neighbourhood. The accused was located nearby in possession of the above mentioned stolen tools and taken into custody.
The accused was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit for follow-up investigation.
Upon arrest, he provided a false name and investigators later determined his correct identity, which revealed a number of outstanding warrants.
Stefan James NEVISTIUK, (38) of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences and detained in custody:
- Break Enter & Theft - Place
- Identity Fraud - Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited Pursuant to Federal or Provincial Act
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Theft Under $5000
- 5 Warrants for: Fail to Comply Probation, Identity Fraud, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Public Mischief, Failure to Produce Drivers License
