In late September of 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted by hospital officals of an infant that had been brought in to emergency with suspicious injuries.

The Child Abuse Unit assumed the investigation and learned that an adult female and an adult male, later determined to be the biological parents, had attended the hospital seeking medical attention for their infant girl who was unresponsive and suffering from multiple injuries.

During the course of the investigation, doctors determined the injuries to be as a result of malnutrition and abuse.

On October 22, Child Abuse investigators arrested both parents without incident.

A 29-year-old female of Winnipeg is facing the charge of Failing to Provide Neccessities of Life.

A 33-year-old male, also of Winnipeg is facing charges Aggravated Assault and Failing to Provide Neccessities of Life.

Both were detained in police custody awaiting disposition.
