On October 22, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the first 100 block of Stadacona Street after receiving multiple reports of a large breed dog on the loose.

Attending East District General Patrol officers located three adult victims and one youth suffering from serious dog bites. Officers provided one of the victims, a 16-year-old youth, emergency medical care for a serious upper-body injury with the application of a tourniquet. She was transported to hospital in stable condition and treated for her injuries. The three other victims, a 48-year-old female, a 67-year-old male, and a 73-year-old male all suffered upper-body injuries and conveyed themselves to hospital for medical attention.

Concerned bystanders corralled the errant dog to prevent further attacks, and alerted arriving officers to their location. In the interest of public safety, officers deemed it necessary to use a firearm to stop the threat of the dog still displaying very aggressive behaviour.

The owner of the dog as well as Animal Services were notified of the incident. Although serious, none of the victim’s injuries were life-threatening.
