On October 21, at approximately 6:20 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a the 100 block of Meadowood Drive for the report of an armed male attempting to rob a dining establishment.

Attending East District General Patrol officers located an adult male suspect being restrained by patrons of the establishment. The male was turned over to the custody of officers and a sharp-edged weapon was recovered and seized as evidence.

Through their investigation, officer learned the suspect entered the dining establishment with his face concealed while brandishing a sharp-edged weapon. The suspect demanded money from two female employees, aged 22 and 29 years. Several patrons intervened, disarmed the suspect, and restrained him until police arrived. The suspect suffered minor injuries and was medically cleared by attending members of the WFPS. The victims were uninjured.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation.

A 35-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Disguise with Intent

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
