On October 20, 2024 at approximately 11:20 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of Neil Avenue for the report of an SUV involved in a collision.

Attending East District officers located the vehicle, a 2023 Volkswagen Taos, and noted a garage structure which had sustained substantial damage. Members of the WFPS were already on scene and the identified driver as well as a female passenger remained on scene and spoke with officers.

Through their investigation, officers learned the vehicle was observed driving erratically in the back lane of Neil Avenue and collided with two separate garage structures prompting police and emergency services to attend.

The 21-year-old male driver of Winnipeg, was not criminally charged; however, the vehicle was seized and he was issued the following Provincial Offence Notices for the following offences:

  • HTA 155(2)(c)As the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident, fail to give required information to a person whose property is damaged as a result of the accident
  • HTA 224(1)Make a false statement, namely advised police he has not consumed any alcohol prior to driving vehicle
  • HTA 188(2) - Drive Carelessly

The driver and and an adult female passenger were unhurt as a result of the collisions. No other injuries were reported.

Officers spoke with owners of the affected residences and provided them with appropriate advice regarding their properties and course of action.
