On October 20, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1100 block of Alfred Street for the report of a male that had broken into a residence.
North District General Patrol officers attended and observed an adult male suspect exiting the residence. As officers approached, the male confronted them, stating he was armed with a sharp-edged weapon (knife), and threatened to kill officers.
Officers provided direction to the male to drop the knife, with which he did not comply. The male attempted to stab officers officers who deployed several Conducted Energy Weapons (Taser) in an attempt to arrest him. With the assistance of multiple officers, the male was safely disarmed and taken into custody. He was medically assessed and cleared by attending WFPS members. No occupants were present in the residence and no other injuries were reported resulting from this incident.
Through their investigation, officers learned that on October 19, the male had fled the same residence following a separate domestic incident which was reported to police. The victim suffered no injuries; however, the male caused substantial damage to property within the residence before fleeing prior to the arrival of police. The male returned to the unoccupied residence on October 20, and police where notified.
Tyler Vernon DYKE, 36, of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2
- Assault Peace Officer x 2
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 3 (One charge stemming from Domestic Incident)
- Resist Peace Officer
- Possession of a Weapon
- Domestic Assault
- Mischief Over $5,000 (from Domestic Incident)
He was detained in custody.
