Firearm Offence – Arrest: R24-35753

In August 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit began a drug trafficking investigation involving a firearm.

Investigators identified a suspect and on October 17, at approximately 8:43 p.m. he was located in the 1300 block of Main Street near Cathedral Avenue.  

He fled from police, and after a short foot pursuit was taken into custody. A loaded Glock handgun was found in his possession.

28-year-old Shayden Matthew TAVARES of Selkirk, Manitoba has been charged with the following offences and remains in police custody until further disposition.

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 4

The Firearm Investigative Analysis Section (FIAS) will continue to investigate regarding the firearm seizure.
