On October 4, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of St. Mary’s Road and Vivian Street for the report of an adult male who had been stabbed.

East District General Patrol officers attended and located a 36-year-old male victim who had sustained a serious but non-life-threatening upper-body injury. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

The initial investigation determined the victim was travelling aboard a southbound transit bus when multiple suspects boarded at Marion Street and St. Mary’s Road. While on board, the group and the victim entered into a verbal dispute, which escalated, and several in the group physically assaulted the victim. The physical altercation spilled outside of the bus in the 200 block of St. Mary’s Road, where one of the suspects stabbed the victim in the upper body. The victim re-entered the bus with the assistance of a good Samaritan, who intervened, and the transit operator summoned police to attend. The suspects fled on foot before police arrival.

The suspects and the victim were previously unknown to one another.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219, Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477), or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
