The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit has assumed an investigation regarding a series of strongarm robberies that occurred along the bicycle path parallel to Fermor Avenue between St. Anne’s Road and Archibald Street between September 26 and October 1.

On September 26, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a 24-year-old male victim was walking westbound along the bicycle path when he was approached and physically assaulted by an adult male suspect brandishing a weapon. The suspect demanded the victim’s personal property and fled southbound before the arrival of police. The victim suffered no injuries.

At approximately 6:41 a.m. on the same date, a 59-year-old male victim was travelling westbound on the bicycle path from Archibald Street when he was approached and confronted by a male suspect brandishing a weapon. The suspect demanded the victim’s property and fled before the arrival of police. The victim suffered no injuries.

On October 1 at approximately 6:20 a.m., a 51-year-old male victim was travelling westbound along the bicycle path from Archibald Street when he was approached by two suspects walking in the opposite direction. The victim was physically assaulted as one of the suspects brandished a weapon and demanded personal property. The suspects fled before police arrived. The victim suffered various injuries for which he did not require medical attention.

On October 5, Major Crimes investigators arrested a 23-year-old male from Winnipeg in the 1000 block of Autumnwood Drive. He faces a charge of Armed Robbery and was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Investigators have also identified a second adult male suspect believed to be involved in the incidents. Investigators applied for and were granted a warrant for the arrest of 45-year-old Allen James AITKEN of Winnipeg.

He is described as:

  • A heavy-set white male, approximately 6’0” in height, weighing approximately 235 lbs
  • Short brown hair with blue eyes

The Major Crimes Unit requests public assistance in locating AITKEN and reminds the public not to approach AITKEN if encountered as he is considered armed and dangerous.
