In September 2024, The Winnipeg Police Service’s Firearms Investigation and Enforcement Unit (FIEU) began an investigation regarding an individual believed to be manufacturing firearms and weapons using a 3D printer.
On September 26, at approximately 8:00 a.m., FIEU investigators, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, the Guns & Gangs Unit, and Community Support Units from the Central and East Districts, arrested the adult male suspect and executed a search warrant for a linked residence in the 400 block of Beresford Avenue.
Investigators uncovered a fully operational 3D printing workshop within the suite and seized the following property as evidence:
- 3D Printer x 2
- Laptop Computer x 2
- Desktop Computer
- 3D-printed Baton
- 3D-printed Electrical Discharge Device x 3 (in various states of production)
- Various 3D-printed Parts
- 3D-printed .22 Calibre Handgun
- .22 Calibre Primers and Ammunition
- Multiple 3D-printed Imitation Firearms (Missile Launcher, Machine Guns, Pistol)
- Manufacturing Tools
Jay Jonathan MIKE, 40, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Weapons Trafficking x 2
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 3
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He was detained in custody.
The investigation by the Firearms Investigation and Enforcement Unit is ongoing.
