On October 2, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service arrested three individuals after police discovered illicit drugs, weapons, and cash during a North End traffic stop.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s North District Community Support Unit stopped a compact sedan travelling northbound on Powers Street near Flora Avenue after observing the vehicle with a smashed windshield. While speaking with the vehicle’s three occupants, officers noticed a weapon in plain view.
The occupants were arrested, and a search of the vehicle and those involved resulted in the seizure of the following:
- Machete
- Plastic brass knuckles with functioning taser
- Approximately 73 grams Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value: $3,725)
- Approximately 9 grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $720)
- Approximately 13 grams of Crack Cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $1,000)
- Various quantities of prescription pills
- Cellular phones
- Scales and packaging materials
- $790 CDN currency
Anthony COURCHENE, 41, is charged with seven weapons, drug trafficking and proceeds of crime-related offences. He was also arrested on the strength of two Powerview RCMP warrants related to assault and release order compliance charges.
The 31-year-old male driver and a 33-year-old female passenger face similar charges. The female passenger additionally faces a charge of possession of a prohibited device.
COURCHENE was detained in custody, while the two other accused were released on undertakings scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
