A 41-year-old man has been charged after a fire was set to wooden pallets outside a business in the Weston area. Early detection of the fire allowed for a rapid response and minimal damage.

On October 1, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a business in the 1400 block of Dublin Avenue for the report of a fire. The business owner received an alert from the property's surveillance system, observed a suspect setting the fire via a live video feed, and immediately contacted police.

West District General Patrol officers arrived shortly after and observed wooden pallets stacked against the building that had been set ablaze. Officers located the suspect nearby and took him into custody. During the arrest, officers seized a matchbox, lighter, and torch.

Officers contained the fire until members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service arrived and fully extinguished it.

Shawn Andrew GRISDALE (41) has been charged with arson, possessing incendiary material, and failing to comply with a Release Order.

He was detained in custody.
