The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating a stabbing that occurred in the downtown area on September 23, 2026.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 200 block of Portage Avenue following reports of a stabbing.

Central District General Patrol officers located a 46-year-old male victim suffering from serious upper-body injuries consistent with a stabbing. Officers provided emergency medical care, including the application of a chest seal until paramedics arrived. The male was transported to hospital in unstable condition and subsequently upgraded to stable.

The suspect(s) fled prior to the arrival of police.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and learned that the victim was approached and confronted by several unknown suspects in the 300 block of Portage Avenue. During the confrontation, one of the suspects stabbed the victim with an unknown weapon, causing serious injuries.

Following the incident, the victim attended a nearby business for assistance, where police were contacted.
