Every two years, the Winnipeg Police Service, in conjunction with the Winnipeg Police Board, contracts out a public opinion telephone survey to an independent agency. The anonymous survey asks citizens about their view of the Service and their opinions about crime and public safety in our city.
Between July 24th, and August 14th, 2026, over 600 residents were contacted contacted regarding their involvement with, and their opinions of the Winnipeg Police Service.
The 2026 survey results reinforce many of the priorities identified in the Winnipeg Police Service’s 2026 Business Plan. Improving responsiveness to calls for service remains a key focus through initiatives such as the new Rapid Response Unit, Strategic Call Management, and Alternative Response models designed to better match resources to community needs. The Business Plan also places specific emphasis on concerns identified by residents, including downtown safety and drug-related crime, through enhanced visible policing, partnerships with community safety organizations, and targeted enforcement efforts.
While overall perceptions of the WPS have improved since 2024, the results also highlight areas where continued progress is needed. The WPS remains focused on using its available resources as effectively as possible, while investing in new approaches, technology, and partnerships that strengthen frontline capacity and improve service to the public. These efforts reflect our commitment to the priorities of the communities we serve.
This survey is just another way of communicating with the citizens of Winnipeg and using the results to improve as an organization. The results have been made public and can be found here.
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank all those who took part in the survey and help make our city a safer place to live, work and play.
