Man arrested for luring and sexual assault: C26-208916

A man has been arrested for online luring and the sexual assault of a teenage female.

It was reported to police that on August 21, 2026, a teen agreed to meet a male in person that she had met online. They met at a shopping mall and upon seeing him, the female went to the washroom.

The man followed her into an individual washroom, locked the door and she was sexually assaulted. As they left the washroom, he verbally threatened her, then fled the mall.

The teen located mall security and police were contacted. She received medical attention.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit entered into an investigation and a suspect was identified.

On August 31, 2026, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the South Pointe West neighbourhood where electronic devices were seized. Later that day, the suspect turned himself in to police.

A 19-year-old man, Muhammad ZAIN, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Interference
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by Means of Telecommunication
  • Forcible Confinement

He was detained in custody.
