The Sex Crimes Unit continued to investigate a sexual assault that occurred in December 2025, at a residence in the East area of the city of Winnipeg.

On April 2, 2026, the Sex Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit (TST), executed a warrant on a residence in the East area of the city. Approximately seven grams of psilocybin (Estimated Street Value = $240) was located by officers and seized.

Russell George WYATT, (56), was arrested and charged with Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Psilocybin and released on an Undertaking.

As previously released, in February 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation after receiving a report about the sexual assault of an adult male.

The survivor reported that in December 2025, he made acquaintance with another adult man on a social website, and they met in person on more than one occasion.

During one of the occasions, they met at a residence in the East area of the city. While at the residence, the survivor was provided an illicit drug and sexually assaulted.

After leaving, he sought medical attention. 

The Sex Crimes Unit continued the investigation and identified a suspect.

On March 24, 2026, Russell George WYATT, (56), was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Aggrieve or Annoy

He was released on an Undertaking.
