On August 4, 2026, members of the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a 36-year-old male suspect after seizing over 60 boxes of contraband tobacco from a residence in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers were investigating an unrelated incident at the above-mentioned address when they observed a large quantity of illegal tobacco products.
The investigation was subsequently taken over by the Property Crime Unit, which obtained a search warrant for the residence. While officers secured the suite pending the warrant, the suspect returned and was arrested without incident.
In the early morning hours of August 5, officers executed the search warrant and seized:
- Nearly 3000 cigarette cartons (Estimated total of 600,000 individual cigarettes)
- $1,500 CDN currency
The 36-year-old suspect faces charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 and Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco.
He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
