IIU Investigation – Officer Involved Shooting: C26-191138

On August 3, 2026, at approximately 2:27 a.m., a Winnipeg Police Service North District Unit officer was in the vicinity of Aikins Street and College Avenue when he heard the sound of multiple gunshots nearby.

The officer immediately attended to the location of the gunshots to investigate and was confronted by a woman and a 16-year-old youth. A use of force encounter occurred, a police service firearm was discharged, and the woman was injured.

Emergency medical care was immediately provided to the 18-year-old woman, and she was transported to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable condition.

A firearm was recovered from the suspects.

Investigators have determined that the adult female and 16-year-old youth are linked to a shooting that occurred outside a residence in the 300 block of College Avenue at approximately 2:27 a.m. The 16-year-old youth has been arrested.

As this matter is deemed a serious incident pursuant to The Police Services Act, the Civilian Director of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified.
