Winnipeg Police Arrest Man in RCMP Drug Trafficking Investigation: C26-185708

On July 28, 2026, members of the Winnipeg Police Service arrested 37-year-old Christopher James ATHWAL, subject of an RCMP- led CBSA drug-trafficking investigation.

Earlier in the day, members of the Central Division Community Support Unit (CSU), were contacted by members of the RCMP to attend an address in the Peguis neighbourhood, where ATHWAL had taken up residence.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Central Division CSU members, with assistance from the Organized Crime Unit, Guns Gangs and Drug Enforcement Unit, and the Tactical Support Team, ATHWAL was arrested without incident. Officers seized 3.5 grams of what is believed to be cocaine resulting from a search of his person.

Following the arrest, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1-99 block of Goodfellow Way and seized:

  • A loaded Kriss Vector .45 calibre semi-automatic rifle with an obliterated serial number
  • A Hunt Group FD12 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun with an obliterated serial number
  • A Glock magazine containing 6 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition
  • 25 shotgun rounds
  • 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • 2 spent 12-gauge shotgun shells
  • 408 grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $27,000)
  • 3.3 kilograms of cutting agent
  • Packaging materials, scales, press, and coffee grinder
  • Approximately $150,000 CDN currency

Charges

ATHWAL is charged with:

  • 11 firearm-related offences
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.

He was detained in custody.
