On July 26, 2026, around 2:00 in the morning, police received reports of a Corvette and several other vehicles racing at excessive speeds along the Disraeli Freeway. With the assistance of AIR1 the direction of travel and speeds were monitored and communicated to the ground units for coordination. The vehicles eventually split off into multiple directions after crossing the Nairn Overpass at speeds up to 200 km/hr.
Central Traffic units attempted to stop a Jeep and the Corvette at Lagimodiere and Regent. The Jeep stopped and was issued tickets under the Highway Traffic Act. The Corvette did not stop and sped past them, entering a residential area. It eventually stopped in the 100 block of Johnson Avenue, where the driver and passenger exited and took off running.
With the assistance of the K9 Unit, they were tracked to the 100 block of Poplar Street and both taken into custody. One of the suspects received medical attention after being apprehended by a Police Service Dog.
A 20-year-old man is facing the following charges:
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
He was released on an Appearance Notice.
The other vehicles were not identified.
