A 47-year-old man is in custody after a fire was deliberately set at the St. Vital Walmart located at 1255 St. Mary’s Road on July 6, 2026.
Shortly before 7:00 p.m., the suspect attended the bedding section of the store and proceeded to set fire to bedding products. The fire quickly spread and resulted in thick black smoke permeating through the store. While the fire spread, the suspect attended an attached fast-food restaurant, helped himself to a beverage from the soft drink machine, and sat down at one of the tables. Within moments, the 150-200 patrons and staff were evacuated from the building.
Members of the WFPS attended and successfully knocked down the fire. Property damage is estimated at over ten million dollars.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and soon identified the suspect as Ronald Marmito AMIGO (47).
On July 9, 2026, members of the Bail Compliance Unit located and arrested AMIGO in the 300 block of Furby Street without incident. A small amount of methamphetamine and a lighter were located on his person and seized as evidence.
AMIGO is charged with the following offences:
- Arson with Disregard for Human Life
- Arson Causing Damage to Property
- Possession of Incendiary Material
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
AMIGO was detained in police custody awaiting further disposition.
