On December 18, 2024, an 84-year-old man succumbed to injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the area of Byrd Avenue and Westwood Drive.

The Traffic Division’s Collision Investigation Section continued the investigation.

On June 26, 2026, investigators arrested an 87-year-old man, who is facing a charge of Drive Carelessly – Cause Death under the Highway Traffic Act and was released on an Appearance Notice.

As previously released:

On December 18, 2024, at approximately 5:28 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Byrd Avenue and Westwood Drive.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended and located an 84-year-old male pedestrian with serious injuries after being struck by a passenger vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in unstable condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The 86-year-old male driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative with officers.

The Traffic Division has assumed the investigation. No charges have been laid.
