On June 14, 2026, just before 11:00 p.m., West District General Patrol officers were in the vicinity of the 3900 block of Portage Avenue on an unrelated matter when they received information that a sexual assault had just occurred.

Investigators determined that a man encountered a woman and they began conversing with each other. The man began to hug and kiss the woman. The woman was able to break free and fled aboard a parked Winnipeg Transit bus. The man followed and sat next to the woman on the bus and proceeded to sexually assault her. Passengers intervened and stopped the assault. Officers located the man and he was arrested without incident.
