On April 27, 2026, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service’s West District General Patrol officers arrested a 17-year-old youth in relation to an investigation into animal cruelty involving Canada geese.
Through their investigation, officers learned of several incidents where a youth, while driving a white 2024 Subaru Solterra, drove over six Canada geese, seriously injuring or killing them in the process. Officers documented the following incidents:
- April 25 at 9:53 p.m.: A sleeping goose was driven over and injured in a parking lot in the 1-99 block of Henlow Bay
- April 25 at 9:57 p.m.: Two sleeping geese were driven over and killed in a separate parking lot in the 1-99 block of Henlow Bay
- April 25 at 10:17 p.m.: Two geese were chased from their nest in a parking lot in the 550 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway, then driven over and killed
Officers identified the 2024 Solterra and linked the male youth as its driver during the above-mentioned incidents.
On April 27, officers arrested the youth at his residence without incident.
A 17-year-old boy faces five counts of Killing or Injuring Animals.
He was released on an Appearance Notice for court at a later date.
Officers also briefed Manitoba Conservation as the incidents involve a protected species.
The investigation is continuing.
