Police seized illicit drugs and a firearm. One man in custody: C26-43766

On February 24, 2026, just before 3:00 p.m., officers from the East District Community Support Unit were conducting proactive policing in the East Kildonan – Transcona neighbourhood.

Officers observed a man believed to have outstanding warrants exiting a 2009 BMW in the rear of a residence in the 1000 block of McLeod Avenue. Upon seeing police, the man attempted to flee but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

During the arrest, the rear licence plate of the BMW was determined to be stolen. A search of the vehicle revealed the following items that were seized by officers including:

  • Sawed-off Maverick 12 shotgun with spent shell in the chamber and two shells in the magazine tube
  • Approximately 32 grams of cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $3,200)
  • Approximately 9 grams of methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $450)

Eric Dale ROSS, (38), has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 10
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Warrant – Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code
  • Warrant – Identity Fraud, Resist Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Peace Officer, Operation While Prohibited

He was detained in custody.
