Fatal house fire in the West Broadway neighbourhood: C26-34274

On February 12, 2026, just after 6:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a house fire in the 200 block of Young Street.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was already on scene battling the fire. Multiple occupants were evacuated. Two people were transported to hospital: one in critical condition and one in stable condition. The person who was originally transported in critical condition has succumbed to their injuries. A firefighter who was injured on scene was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation.

The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Gregory George THOMAS.

Investigators learned that the fire had been deliberately set.

Michael Patrick GORDON, (40), has been charged with Manslaughter and Arson –Disregard Human Life x 2, and was detained in custody.
