Suspect armed with shotgun sought in cab driver robbery: C26-17043

The Winnipeg Police Service is seeking a suspect in connection with the robbery of a cab driver in the William Whyte area, where the suspect was armed with a shotgun.

On January 22, 2026 at 12:35 a.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to a robbery in the 1100 block of Main Street. The suspect, a fare in a taxi, requested to be dropped off in the 400 block of Charles Street. Before exiting, he produced a shotgun, demanded the driver’s property, and told him to exit the cab. The driver was then assaulted (no shots fired) and robbed.

The suspect took the drivers property and fled before police arrived. The victim sustained minor injuries from the assault and was treated on scene by Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service members.

The suspect is described as Caucasian or Indigenous in appearance, approximately 35 years old, heavy build (200–300 lbs), with possible facial hair on the chin. He was wearing a black jacket and black toque and was in possession of a shotgun.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation.
