Stolen vehicle, foot pursuit and seizure of a prohibited firearm: C26-7542

On January 9, 2025, around 10:40 p.m., officers from East District Community Support Unit were patrolling the Talbot neighbourhood, when a vehicle was observed speeding northbound Gateway Road.  

Police maintained a safe follow distance as the vehicle proceeded to evade police. Additional units flooded the area and the vehicle stopped at Molson Street/Norwich Avenue. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and began to run. After a short foot chase, police took the suspect into custody.

The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and a semi-automatic carbine rifle with a loaded magazine was located inside.

Kyle Andrew CATHRO (37), was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 

He was detained in custody.
