Update: Investigators identify and arrest suspect in pellet gun shooting of transit operator: C25-256607

On October 27, 2025, a Winnipeg Transit operator was assaulted shot in the hand with what is believed to be a pellet gun during a dispute with a fare. The incident was assigned to the Major Crimes Unit and the investigation continued. As a result of the investigation, a suspect was identified.

On January 4, 2026, a 14-year-old boy was arrested at his residence in East Kildonan, and is facing the following charges:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking x 2
  • Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

He was detained in custody.

As previously released:

On October 27, 2025 at 2:11 p.m., East District General Patrol officers responded to the intersection of Gateway Road and Springfield Road for the report of a youth that produced what is believed to be a pellet gun and shot a transit operator in the hand following a dispute. The operator received minor injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

With the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and K9, officers searched the area for the youth, however, the youth had fled prior to police arrival. 

The major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation.
