On January 4, 2026, patrolling Winnipeg Police Service officers arrested a 30-year-old man involved in the random, unprovoked assault of a woman in her 30’s in the 300 block of Portage Avenue.

At 1:30 p.m., West District General Patrol officers were travelling westbound on Portage Avenue near Donald Street when they observed a man physically assaulting a woman and knocking her to the ground. The officers quickly intervened, stopped the assault, and arrested the uncooperative suspect. During the arrest, one officer deployed a conductive energy weapon to safely take the suspect into custody. The woman suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The suspect and the victim were not previously known to one another and the assault appears to be random and unprovoked.

Jacob GEORGE (30) has been charged with Assault and was detained in police custody awaiting further disposition.
