On November 21, 2025, the Major Crimes Unit arrested 38-year-old Yosef Negasi MICHELL following an investigation regarding several armed commercial robberies in the south end of the city. Officers seized a clown mask and an imitation air-powered rifle after a search of his residence.

Synopsis of incidents:

  • June 11, 2025: A suspect entered a hotel lounge in the 1-99 block of Alpine Avenue wearing a disguise while armed with an air-powered rifle. He attended behind the bar, pried open a till, and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
  • October 14, 2025: A suspect entered a cannabis dispensary in the 700 block of St. Mary’s Road with his face covered while armed with an air-powered rifle. He demanded money from the employee and fled on foot with marijuana and vape products valued at approximately $5,000.
  • November 7, 2025: A suspect entered a cannabis dispensary in the 1300 block of Archibald Street with his face covered while armed with an air-powered rifle. He attended behind the counter and demanded money from the employees. He fled on a motorized bicycle with an undisclosed amount of money.

All incidents were captured on video surveillance and no injuries were reported.

The Major Crimes Unit initiated an investigation and identified MICHELL as a suspect believed to be involved in the above-mentioned incidents. On November 27, investigators attended the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre where MICHELL, in custody regarding an unrelated matter, was placed under arrest.

MICHELL is charged with three counts each of Robbery, wearing a Disguise with Intent, Possession of a Weapon, and two breaches of a Release Order.

MICHELL remains in custody.
