Arrest Made in fatal Langside Street shooting: C25-203459

Update:

A man has been charged for the murder of 25-year-old Melvin CATCHEWAY Jr.. On August 29, 2025, CATCHEWAY was shot in the 600 block of Langside Street and succumbed to his injuries.

The Homicide Unit continued to investigate and identified a suspect. Investigators determined the two men, who were previously known to one another, became involved in an altercation when the victim was shot.

On November 28, 2025, police arrested and charged 53-year-old, Troy Donavan BERNIER for the following offences:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Warrant: Uttering Threats and Fail to Comply Probation x 2
  • Warrant: Fail to Comply Probation

He was detained in custody.

As previously released:

On August 29, 2025 at 12:49 a.m., Central District General Patrol officers, came across an unresponsive male with serious injuries in the 600 block of Langside Street. Emergency medical care was provided and the male victim was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident is being treated as a homicide.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Melvin CATCHEWAY Jr., a member of Lake St. Martin First Nation, who had been residing in Winnipeg. Family notifications have been made.
