Property Crime Unit investigation leads to arrest of designer sunglass thief: E25-34277

In early October 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service received multiple reports regarding thefts from a sunglass retailer located in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. The thefts amounted to a financial loss of over $19,000.

  The Property Crime Unit assumed the investigation and learned the following:

- October 1: A man attended a retail store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue and stole eight pairs of designer sunglasses valued at $3,403

- October 2: A man attended a retail store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue and stole eight pairs of designer sunglasses valued at $3,795

- October 5: A man attended a retail store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue and stole four pairs of designer sunglasses valued at $2,000

- October 6: A man attended a retail store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue and stole eight pairs of designer sunglasses valued at $4,340

- October 8: A man attended a retail store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue and    stole twelve pairs of designer sunglasses valued at $5,500

As a result of their investigation, the Property Crime Unit identified 26-year-old Nicholas Devon CHASTELLAINE as a suspect, and linked him to the above-mentioned incidents.

On October 17, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit while investigating an unrelated incident, arrested CHASTELLAINE at a residence in the 600 block of Toronto Street.

CHASTELLAINE has been charged with the following offences:

  • Theft Over $5,000
  • Theft Under $5,000 x 4
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 5

CHASTELLAINE was detained in custody.
