Woman assaulted entering apartment building in Maples neighbourhood – man charged with assault and sexual assault: C25-230806

On September 27, 2025 at 11:00 p.m., officers arrested 18-year-old Malachi Christian BITTERN, after a woman reported being sexually assaulted at an apartment building on Mandalay Drive. BITTERN and the victim were previously unknown to one another, and the incident is believed to be random and unprovoked.

The victim, in her 30’s, reported that at 10:20 p.m., BITTERN followed her into the apartment building lobby where he grabbed her in an unwanted sexual manner. He began punching her repeatedly, and fled from the building before she called police. She sustained minor injuries, but did not require further medical attention.

Arriving North and East District officers located BITTERN in front of the building and arrested him without incident.

BITTERN has been charged with Sexual Assault, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, and three breaches of a Release Order. Officers also arrested BITTERN on the strength of a warrant.

BITTERN was detained in custody.
