Man in custody after firing sawed-off shotgun in the middle of downtown: C25-226313

On September 24, 2025, just before 2:00 a.m., police arrested a 39-year-old man for discharging a firearm in public outside of an apartment complex in the 300 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue.

On September 23, 2025, just after 7:00 a.m., Central District General Patrol officers responded to the area of Kennedy Street and Deacon Street for the report of a male in possession of a firearm and the sound of shots. A suspect and firearm were not located at this time.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.

Investigators learned that the man had attended the back lane in the 300 block of Kennedy Street where he took out a sawed-off shot gun, loaded it and fired it prior to leaving the area. There were no reported injuries or damage as a result of this incident.

James Roland EVANS, (39) has been charged with the following:

  • Discharge a Firearm Into or At a Place in a Reckless Manner
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 7
  • Warrant x 4

On September 24, 2025, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, a search warrant was executed on a suite in an apartment complex in the 300 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue where a sawed-off shotgun and multiple shotgun shells were seized.

EVANS was detained in custody.
