The Winnipeg Police Service’s Communication Centre continues to receive numerous reports from people being contacted by telephone by individuals who have been identifying themselves as “Winnipeg Police”. The service has received reports from various provinces, all indicating these calls falsely originating from the WPS non-emergency number of “204-986-6222”.

As a reminder, law enforcement agencies will never call you and request personal information or funds. Do not disclose any personal information about bank accounts, identification numbers, credit cards, or personal finances to anyone.

If you have experienced a financial loss or identity theft resulting from having been defrauded, you can report the matter to police in-person, or by calling the non-emergency line at 204-986-6222.

For incidents like internet, phone, or text scams, or if you haven’t lost money, please report directly to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center.
